Building this week

Rebuilding goremotejob's employer dashboard — self-serve job posting, applicant tracking, and Stripe-backed billing in one flow.

Learning

Going deep on Postgres query planning and durable background jobs so the crawler stops waking me up at 3am.

Looking for

Talking to remote-first teams hiring senior full-stack / product engineers. Bonus points if the product is used by real customers.

How I think

Opinions I've earned by shipping.

01

Why most job boards are broken

They optimize for listings, not outcomes.

A job board's real product is a matched hire, not a wall of postings. Most boards get paid to publish, so they hoard stale listings and bury the 5% that are actually live. I built goremotejob around freshness and honesty — dead listings get pruned, and employers only win when candidates apply.

02

What I learned shipping a 2-sided marketplace solo

Supply is a grind. Demand is a different job entirely.

Bootstrapping both sides alone means you're never done — the crawler feeds supply while you cold-email employers for demand, and neither side forgives neglect. The unlock was treating operations as a product: dashboards, alerts, and automations that let one person run something that normally needs a team.

03

The honest truth about remote hiring in 2026

Async proof beats the polished interview.

The best remote hires I've seen shared work in public — repos, write-ups, shipped side projects — long before any interview. Live coding puzzles select for nerves, not judgment. If you want senior operators, watch how they think in the open, then talk.
